Rex Burkholder is a candidate for Portland City Council in District 3 (Southeast Portland).
Burkholder is a partner at The Oxalis Group, a strategic communications firm. A trained biologist and sustainability advocate, he founded the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (now The Street Trust) and the Oregon Outdoor Education Coalition. He also co-founded the Coalition for a Livable Future and authored the how-to guide “The Activist’s Toolkit.”
Burkholder led the effort to pass a 2016 state measure that provided funding for Outdoor School for All, an outdoor education program. He played an active role in passing Measure 114, Oregon’s gun violence prevention ballot initiative, and Measure 110, the state’s drug decriminalization effort.
Burkholder held elected office as a Metro Councilor from 2000 to 2012. He currently serves on the board of the social justice organization Unite Oregon Action and the outdoor youth education nonprofit Mount St. Helens Institute.
According to his campaign website, Burkholder’s priorities include social, environmental, and economic justice.
