Michael O’Callaghan is a candidate for Portland Mayor.
O’Callaghan is a cycling advocate and advocate for the unhoused, who has worked to reduce food waste and food insecurity. In 2012, he sued the city over its camping ban, arguing that it criminalizes homelessness and fails to provide adequate shelter options, drawing from his own experience of living outside.
O’Callaghan’s priorities include making Portland safer, more affordable, and to ensure everyone is housed. His proposals include converting garages and office spaces into living units, establishing self-governing villages, imposing fees on unoccupied housing, and prohibiting corporate ownership of residential properties.
