Jesse Cornett is a candidate for Portland City Council in District 3 (Southeast Portland).
Cornett is the Interim Policy Director for Oregon Recovers, a statewide coalition of Portlanders recovering from addiction. His professional background includes positions with Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury. Notably, he was also U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ body man during his 2020 presidential campaign.
Cornett served eight years in the US Army Reserves and the Oregon National Guard, and also spent time as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. He unsuccessfully ran for State Senate in 2006 and for Portland City Commission in 2010.
Cornett’s priorities include affordable housing and rental assistance, supporting community policing and Portland Street Response (the city’s unarmed mental health crisis response team), and expanding access to addiction and mental health services. He also advocates for reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
