Harrison Kass is a candidate for Portland City Council in District 3 (Southeast Portland).
Kass is a Policy Advisor for Commissioner Rene Gonzalez and a freelance journalist covering politics, national security, and military technology. As a lawyer, he has clerked for Youth, Rights & Justice, a nonprofit law firm for children and families, and for Oregon Federal Defenders. Kass has also served as a fellow on Mayor Ted Wheeler’s community safety team.
Kass advocates for banning unauthorized camping and RV parking on Portland streets, expanding Temporary Alternative Shelter Sites (TASS) and Safe Rest Villages, and increasing case workers and wraparound services for those living on the streets. His policy priorities include bolstering the Portland Police Department to at least 1,000 officers, expanding other emergency services, and reinstating community policing efforts, including the Crime Prevention Officer role. Kass also emphasizes the importance of addressing drug use and mental health issues through enforced treatment to improve safety across the city.
