Cayle Tern is a candidate for Portland City Council in District 1 (East Portland).
Tern is the Civic Engagement Manager for APANO, an organization supporting Oregon’s Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Originally from Laos, he serves as the President of the Iu-Mien Association of Oregon, and is the Board Chair of the Asian Pacific Islander Community Coalition of Oregon.
A 2021 graduate of the Oregon Labor Candidate School, a training program for pro-labor candidates, Tern unsuccessfully ran for State Legislature that same year. He currently holds elected office as a Reynolds School Board member.
Tern’s priorities include access to mental health and substance abuse services, a comprehensive housing support program, standardized training for police officers, affordable transportation, and pedestrian safety.
